    from this NY TImes piece:

    annual cost of treating gunshot wounds as of the date of this piece (August 2010) was $2.3 billion.

    that does not include the additional costs for the burial of those who cannot be treated.

    Remember that between those shot by others and gun suicides our death toll from guns is around 30,000/year.

    The average cost of a funeral in 2006 was $6,200.  For now let's assume that cost is $7,000.

    Add 30,000 x 7,000  and you get another $2.1 billion.

    So far our annual cost of people being shot by guns is over $4 billion.

    When will we ever learn?
