a reactionary ass. I can't stand it either. People on the Internet posting how Hitler took the guns, You're on the Internet! Search for when Hitler took away the guns. Oh, Hitler didn't take any guns from the Germans.

The United States has no means to take away the guns. As Obama said about "death panels", "I don't have the people to do that".

There's 20 dead children for God's sake. A nation that can't protect it's children isn't worth spit. I remember when the citizens of this country would say, "Those foreigners have no respect for human life". Now they're saying that about us.

We're fools whether we dance or not, so we might as well dance.

was a gun buyback program. More than 630,000 guns were turned in. That might not seem like a lot, but in a country 1/15th the size of the US, and with far lower gun ownership rates, that was actually a huge number.

I don't expect a similar program in the US would be nearly as successful. It's not just about the guns. It's also about the gun nuts.

        implemented after the ban was.

the ban went through because australia never had anything comparable to the second amendment.

and its population is 1/13th ours, despite its size.  and despite its size, it still fits inside texas + one smallish state.  direct comparisons like this are silly.

comparison I made. I noted the size difference and simply said--or implied--that it was a large fraction.

When I said 1/15th the size I meant 1/15th the population.

Australia is 3/4 the area and about 1/14th the population.
