I caught up on some reading and one of the things I read were the last few posts on Moon of Alabama.

The breadth of foreign policy knowledge that you would need to understand all of the wars going on is beyond me, but I know enough to get a sense of it, I think. Though my knowledge of things geopolitical in Africa is very weak.

One story about what's going on in Turkey and Syria with the Kurds was really disturbing.  It also made me wonder about what impact it would have on the US ties with the Kurds in Iraq and if it's possible that that will be stirred up again (assuming that we back Turkey and the groups attacking the Kurds which seems like it would be a big betrayal to the Kurds in Iraq).

Anyway, between the Moon of Alabama stuff (note that one article in there is about more Syrian propaganda that went out across all the major media) and some things from Escobar and other miscellaneous things, I get a bad, bad feeling about what's happening in Mali.

I'm not sure how much more of this I can take, as in trying to stay informed, trying to speak out. Particularly worried lately and this train... I mean I never thought anyone in any kind of power would listen to someone like me, but I still thought that working to be informed and to help others to be informed was always a worthwhile effort.  But is it?

(Again, just a note, I ignore what Pat Lang has to say about the gun issue and some other things and read him strictly for his foreign policy knowledge).

4 years ago I had so much hope, that "the one" would turn the world around the other way, and now I wonder if our voices even can matter to effect change.

almost hopeless is how I feel.
