an emergency plan to assist our less mobile members in case of an emergency (like quake, fire, etc).

a flight attendent friend years ago made the observation that when going into a new hotel, count the number of doors between your room and a fire exit - in thick smoke, you won't see but you can remember a number!

also, leaving key on nightstand where you can grab it if you go into hall in a fire so that you aren't locked out of your room in case of a smoke filled environment.

safety tips for all, but especially for those with different abilities!

san jose is quake country - having "buddy" systems in place would be a good idea!

let's kick this around a bit!  maybe a diary with folks chipping in suggestions on how to make things better logistically.  if we have a block of rooms reserved, making sure the handicapped ones are also available.  most hotels now have special handicapped rooms with easier access to showers (wheelchair accessible) and handrails and more.

    •  Really good start on a list. (0+ / 0-)

It looks like we're onto something here :)
The handicapped-accessible hotel rooms are crucial for us, we've found. That's something to investigate right away.

Some DKos series & groups worth your while: Black Kos, Native American Netroots, KosAbility, Monday Night Cancer Club. If you'd like to join the Motor City Kossacks, send me a Kosmail.
