  •  According to the available stats (4+ / 0-)

Homicides, as well as violent crime overall, have gone down as a whole over the past few decades-but there is evidence of an increase in certain kinds of violent crime-Murder suicides, family-anihilator killings, mass shootings, and homicides of young black men. Also a pretty dramatic increase in suicides (they quadrupled between 2008 and 2010). All of these types of violence are most commonly committed with a firearm.

Don't have time to chase it down but I think it was CDC...? I was surprised gun % wasn't higher.

that suicides don't count. Last time I checked, people who committed suicide were just as dead as other people who were murdered.  One thing that seems to be becoming more common is that those suicides are accompanied by murders, usually of family as in this case, but also of other innocent people as in Newtown.

Then they came for me - and by that time there was nobody left to speak up.
