    Neither does the first amendment protect the use of speech to advocate overthrow of government by non-democratic means (even nonviolent nondemocratic means)

    nor does the second amendment protect the use of guns to attempt the overthrow of government by violence.

    However, the first amendment does protect ownership of computers, telephones, typewriters, whatever, that could someday be used to advocate for revolution.  Without trigger locks even!

    the purpose of the second amendment is to promote a well-regulated militia, in the same sense that the purpose of the first amendment is to promote a well-informed electorate.
