      wearing a lap belt, regulations come in requiring shoulder straps in back seats. Just saying.

      ...for gun deaths that are accidental just as they are for automobile accidents. Depends largely on the degree and nature of negligence.

      Both are obviously subject to civil actions as well.

      I wasn't taking a side, I was just curious how the annual death rates compare. I picked cars instead of, say, lung cancer, because both are mechanical devices you buy ... You do not strictly have to own either.

      Also, cars,which are deadly if misused, are licensed and insured.

      Diseases are in a different category, but even there, smoking was identified as a serious and extremely expensive public health problem and over time people got to work on it.
