we have a say in this, too.

This is a wonderful country, in spite of itself.

Real plastic here; none of that new synthetic stuff made from chicken feathers. By the morning of 9/12/2001 the people of NYC had won the War on Terror.

    •  and half of them want what the owners want (0+ / 0-)

Either because they are owners, because like the diarist's acquaintance they think they'll become owners, because they're fundies who think more government means less God, because they're racists who don't want non-whites to get stuff from the government, because they're libertarians who object to government and its services on principle, and so on.

      Democracy is not inherently liberal.

Something's wrong when the bad guys are the utopian ones.

        Democracy is not inherently liberal.
Society per a one-ideology-need-apply basis is not novel in history, nor are such examples liberal institutions. You owe yourself some follow-up thinking.
        •  so conservatives will magically vote Democrat? (1+ / 0-)

I don't understand your point.  For one reason or another, roughly half of American voters want what the owners are selling.  When someone says "'We the People' have a voice!", they're right ... but wrong to imply that our having a voice inexorably leads to us having a liberal/progressive voice.

If it did, American democracy would logically have been closed down long ago; the owners can't have people voting against them.
