  •  i'm only aware of mr. mickelson, because i (0+ / 0-)

hear his name mentioned during the sports section of the news. as far as i'm concerned, it isn't real golf, unless there's a windmill in front of at least one hole. hopefully, for his opponent's sake, someone other than mr. mickelson keeps his score, during  matches (games, whatever), because clearly, numbers are not his strong suit.

in fairness to him, he, like every other professional athlete, is an entertainer, and he deserves, like an actor, to get paid whatever the market will bear, i certainly don't hold that against him. however, like everyone else in this country, who has done well, they did so based on the infrastructure that all of us contributed to building, and all of us should contribute to maintaining and improving. those who have succeeded the most, have an obligation to contribute the most, to the commonwealth. in fact, they should be proud to do so, it gives their children the same opportunity to be as successful as they were.

i doubt many of mr. mickelson's fans think less of him, for his comments. golf is traditionally a well-to-do person's game, and those people probably think the same way. however, the powers that be in golf have been trying, for years, to expand its reach, and attract a more diverse group of participants (hey, everyone should be able to have their blood pressure raised!). the PGA/LPGA has (smartly) recognized the benefits of gaining a wider participant/audience/consumer base. public comments, such as mr. mickelson's, don't help their efforts.
