out of fear of seeing something less than a glow-in-the-dark Obama? How this was going to cause Rmoney to win?

that was one of those things people argued and fought about.

I wonder what the next topic will be: ever since the drama of Harding and Kerrigan I have awaited the next thing everybody talks about to the exclusion of everything else.

I am kind of fascinated by this sort of fickleness.

At least the gun issue will likely lead to some sort of improved situation regarding the gun issue, whereas the bulk of these annoying media frenzies merely peter out and the attention goes to something else we then have to hear about 24/7.

When I see a new media frenzy I immediately want to know what's next.

I'd love it if someone asked an old newsman, by "old", I mean a newsman who worked in the time before News divisions were dissolved and the news went to the Entertainment divisions, ask an old newsman how the news was, and should be done.

One day, a thing happens. The next 15 days, the thing is reported on with every minute detail and mostly speculation. Nothing new has happened. The thing becomes a category on a docket, alotted an amount of time to fill. (Or column space.) Other items are not reported in order to do the easy thing- reiterate the thing with a milligram of tangential information. Go to break.

This practice allows the likes of Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan to cultivate fame. This practice allows the consuming public to remain ignorant of issues that do, or will, impact them.

Frenzy cum meme cum tired, bled out story. Until the next one comes along.

I think we have come to live in interesting times.

It's not reasonable to assume that all group behavior on a group blog is perpetrated by the same groups.

That means that you can't ascribe motive to one set of people for behaving one way, and then assume that it's the same set of people behaving differently when a new issue is discussed.
