    This song is in my workout mix - not in my civil rights playlist.  It's just not a song I thought of in that context.  Thanks for sharing!

      I know you refuse to be held down anymore..." ;-)

      Those lyrics could be applied to any group with a historic struggle but it seemed tailored for blacks, especially at the time.

      Perhaps it's more of a victory song. I couldn't stop playing it in November 2008. It seemed as relevant then as the shift in prosperity we witnessed in the late 70s before Reagan screwed everything up for the 80s.
