Redstate did to nudge or knock Romney's campaign off-stride or off-course (along with never-wrong Ron Paul supporters and never-say-die Newt Gingrich) and I could give him perhaps as much as 2% credit.

But Romney & Ryan certainly managed to activate the R/R semi-automatic foot-shooters, often multiple times per week, sometimes both barrels on both sets of smoking feet, keeping his PR and spin crew in overdrive for damage control and shifting focus from the last failed talking point to the next lurching talking point.  That plus keeping his fund-raising crazy train going full blast 365x24x7 and the associated gaffes that richocheted with international repercussions.  So some regard Reagan as the Gipper, and I'll say Romney was the Gaffer, and I think over 53% would agree.

I'd also have to give a significant share of credit ought to go to the Anti-Immigrant, Anti-contraception Legitimate Rape Wing of the GOP who were ever so bothered that women weren't eager to keep one thin (FDR) Roosevelt dime between their knees or be properly subservient to their male masters, and anyone not properly staying in their place, and the End of the World was coming so no need to worry about Climage Change.  Nothing Erickson did or said compared to alienating women, Latinos, and sensible people in general, including a goodly share of 'sane' business people, as well as ignoring the needs of the East Coast created by Hurricane Sandy.
