of anyone who differs from their own point of view has become the model and accepted mode of political discourse for much of the republican party. I think it's a combination of a couple of things. One factor is that media talkers like( Rush and Fox news and the myriad others copying their schtick) need to keep their shows entertaining by amping up the outrage factor. Another important factor is that the country club GOP establishment increasingly has needed the hard core fanatics to be motivated to turn out and donate money. The way to motivate them was to get them outraged by God, gays, guns and the evil socialist Obama.
The downside for them is that the party has devolved to where they turn these kind of tactics on each other.

Country club business interests (the money men) infighting has gotten really interesting since the election.  The most loaded threat so far, IMO, is Rep. Peter King calling on NY & NJ republicans to stop funding congressional races during the Sandy relief debacle.  He said out loud that there was an anti-NY bias in the GOP.

Kind of like telling your partner that you know they're only with you for the money, and oh, BTW, you're ignorant and I know you hate my family too.  It's a harbinger of a breakup.  Once those words are said, you can't take them back--it's out there to stay.
