    trying to find some early-era sports heros who weren't racist.  Stan Musial was very good on race when Robinson started playing for the Dodgers.  That was brave in St. Louis, which is practically a southern city.

    Gary Player and Arnold Palmer got better in later years, but I read some earlier stuff about them touring in South Africa, joking about the blacks there, that doesn't sound too good today.

    Bobby Jones was a plain Georgia racist.
