  •  This must be why no one but you (14+ / 0-)

is conflating gun control with requiring people forfeit weapons they already own.

Certainly from our standpoint, this gives us a sense of momentum -- when the United States has accolades tossed its way, rather than shoes. - PJ Crowley

    •  that exact position has been advocated here (4+ / 0-)

      quite often.

Or did you miss all the references to Australia and the UK?

Senator Feinstein wanted exactly that in 1994, and has said that the only reason she didn't try for it was that she didn't have the votes.

But they wanted to. The only thing that prevented the 1994 AWB from becoming a buyback/confiscation program was that the votes to enact it couldn't be mustered.

There's a reason that the "nobody's going take your guns" line gets no traction. Because my side knows it isn't actually true. There are plenty of Democrats, to say nothing of the major gun control organizations, who would like to do exactly that. And you're not going to get much buy-in for "incremental" measures like magazine capacity lmits or a new AWB so long as that justified lack of trust remains.

          •  So do you have a point then? (0+ / 0-)

Because you have no example of anyone doing this in countries that are far less attached to their guns, and the vast majority of people, and all of those in positions of power have made no indication that seizing guns currently in people's hands are under consideration.  So, all I see is hysteria and absurd domino theory nonsense.

            •  No examples? (0+ / 0-)

Australia and the UK leap immediately to mind, as does California.

when in fact I never have, but oh well.

Then they came for me - and by that time there was nobody left to speak up.
