President was that I could ever let slide any comment that was dishonorable, unjust or cruel.  I live in a rural reactionary part of the country and so I have had lots of opportunities to act on that realization.  What I chose to do was let the person or group know before they went any further how much I supported this President.  Somehow not challenging the racism or whatever was the issue, but just saying I stand with him was plenty.  I could do this in a public or private setting and it didn't really set up a fight, just told them where I stood.

I guess I thought it sent a message that you don't always know that everyone in the room has the same position and kind of destroyed the safety of their bubble.

Now I think its not just enough to wait for the opportunity and react, I need to learn how to present a different picture of the world than one of hate and intolerance and project it in whatever venue presents itself in a way that has a chance of getting through the barriers people have put up to the idea of openness.
