    you would otherwise be at the party with everybody else, and you aren't interested to talking about politics at work.  I work with a lot of people at a couple of different offices and we have to deal with a lot of contentious issues every day; I have made it pretty clear over the last nearly four decades that I don't care to know about my coworkers' politics, religion, favorite intimate positions, or anything else that might interfere with the ability to function successfully in a professional setting (football...now that's a different thing, but never mind that).  I don't do FU's, but I can be pretty blunt about it...

    I'll admit I can sort of get away with it now because I - perversely - AM the "older colleague", but it is something I've always insisted on.  I still express myself with LTE's, messages to my elected representatives, and direct on-line and face-to-face  interactions outside of the work setting, but work is work.  We might talk about Ravens/49er's or Ducks/Beavers and how the kids are doing, but the line is drawn just beyond that...
