    you had the balls to even ask the question.  

    But your math is off...

    It's okay to assume that a heavily armed society will reduce muggings by 75%.  

    The 20% of muggers that knew they would get shot actually would only "think they could" get shot so that 500 deaths would have to be altered drastically because that 500 is made up of people who are less inclined to follow through out of a fear they could get shot.  

    If no more than 5% of muggings end in death it would have to include the death of the mugger and not just the victim.  

    In other words considering that 5% of all muggings end in death, having a heavily armed society would reduce that number of total deaths far more than the non-armed society.  

    Not to mention you'd have to make an assumption about how much muggings would increase if they knew that "nobody" had a weapon.
