    Stonewall IS significant, but I can't get over the fact that if it had happened in, say, Chicago, it wouldn't be as significant.  San Francisco was already on its way past New York, but that's San Francisco, it's not the cultural and media capital of the country. A lot of experts are also trying to decenter Stonewall for the California experience (see my second diary link in the Stonewall section), but it probably shouldn't be decentered for the rest of the country.
