    Current power lines and equipment (breakers, transformers, etc) are designed to operate safely within a voltage range and doubling the voltage would make everything 4 times as large as they are now.

    Transformers loose efficiency as their size increases due to reduced magnetic coupling caused by having more insulation between the windings.

    I, for one, have no problem being led by a 3500 year old Pharaoh who was trained by space aliens on a distant star.
