    His great grandfather, John Sidney McCain, was a plantation owner from Carroll County, Mississippi and was born in 1851.  I'm guessing that even in the Civil War, you couldn't be a general at the age of  somewhere between 11 and 14.  His great great grandfather William Alexander McCain, not to be confused with McCain's uncle of the same name who was a Brigader General in the US Army, was a soldier in the Confederate Calvalry who died in 1863.  He also owned 52 slaves.  "Missisippi" John Hurt is a descendant of a McCain slave.
