  •  Now, I feel lucky (3+ / 0-)

I almost own my house and land. But I felt unwell and could no longer work as an auto-mechanic, after 40 years.
I'm really close to paying it off. Got me a food stamps card.
Never asked  for any help in my life, but I'm still alive.
Applied for SS,but they want more paperwork, again.

    •  The SS paperwork monster is always hungry. (2+ / 0-)

Make copies of what you give them because they will ask for the same forms several times taking the maximum amount of time they can to do so. This is to drag your case out so you will die before getting any of the help you paid into all those years.

      •  Yes losing paperwork (3+ / 0-)

is a way of dragging their heals. It is also their favorite tool.

They like to deny claims because you didn't send the right forms when in reality you have sent them five times.

I some times think alot of our republican poor people are ones that have discovered the safety net is really not there or it at least has big holes.

I have a brother that fought L and I for 8 years after a construction accident. He had some savings and a free place to live or he would have been out on the street. He ended up having a life long disability that would have been an easy fix if they had not drug their feet but by the time he sued them it was to late to fix it. It ended up costing them tens of thousands more to try to keep him from help than it would have cost them just to let him have the tests and get the surgery he needed. Then just maybe he could have gone back to work.

And this is a very democratic state, heaven forbid he lived in Wyoming or something.

        •  I lost my SSI benefits once over 'failing to (2+ / 0-)

attend a hearing', that's what the letter sent to me said but the notice of that hearing had been sent to the wrong town and oddly enuf the mail telling me the bad news came to me at the right address.

It took me 5 YEARS to get that straightened out, even tho it was all a matter of record and I didn't get any back pay when it was made right.
