  •  Thanks for this. I've had similar thoughts rolling (5+ / 0-)

around in my head for the past several days.

To those who think it would be awesome to shoot a petty criminal caught in the act: Everyone has that dumbass brother or niece or cousin-in-law who has been in trouble with the cops from time to time.

Do you really think that the world would be better if someone had caught your distant or no-so-distant relative breaking into a car or whatever... and had shot him/her dead?

    So, two main points:

    1. It is extremely rare for an armed citizen to have an opportunity to shoot a criminal in the act.

    2. On the rare occasions when this does happen, it is a tragedy. It's not some heroic act to be celebrated. It is a tragedy.

It is more important to be a confident and articulate speaker than to know jack shit about anything.

      •  Yes. All of those NRA gun nuts fantasize about (0+ / 0-)

that every day. I'm generalizing a bit, but it's pretty close to the truth.

That's what gun ownership is all about for many, many people: "One day, I'm gonna show someone that he's messed with the wrong guy, and then I'll be a hero."

A lot of us see it in our feeds every day.  Comments like the above "HELL YEAH!" and then signs of some guy having shot someone, or a news story about a robbery leading to people saying "I would have shot them!"
