will be complete silence from the "they want to take our guns" crowd. They seem fact-averse.

    •  I have no idea why they think that. (16+ / 0-)

I have seen not one proposal from anyone in elected office to confiscate the guns in this country.  Not one.

In contrast, back in the 1980s there actually were politicians who were pushing for the mandatory public identification of HIV+ people and even for their quarantine.  Bush the Elder floated such an idea when he was Reagan's VP.

So if anyone has a right to be concerned about the possible consequences of mandatory registration, it's me.  Like I said, though, my name and other information are on file, and so far the guys in black trenchcoats have not come knocking at my door.

I think gun owners should just chill out.  Despite he country having experienced massacre after massacre, no one is calling for getting rid of their precious lethal weapons.

      •  Then apparently you haven't seen what has been (0+ / 0-)

        going on in NY.

        •  Gun control (3+ / 0-)

          is NOT gun confiscation.

        •  Link please. (0+ / 0-)

I'll be very interested to see the proposal for "gun confiscation."  It should make for good reading.

          •  Easy enough (0+ / 0-)

This one is very easy to find with a simple Google search.  Here is a link, though there are plenty more.

From the article, and I do remember seeing a video of him saying this on the news:

In an interview conducted Thursday on WGDJ-AM, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said he will propose gun control legislation in the 2013 session, and everything will be on the table — up to and including outright confiscation of weapons.
            •  Just as I suspected. (0+ / 0-)

I clicked on your link, and here's how the linked site describes itself:

BIZPAC REVIEW brings the finest of Florida’s Conservative media together in one place.
So you're getting your information from a right-wing web site.  Not surprisingly, the right wingers took the quote completely out of context.  Fortunately, they were too stupid even to cover their tracks, and they linked to a New York Times article, where one finds the following quote from Governor Cuomo:
In the interview, Mr. Cuomo did not offer specifics about the measures he might propose, but, while discussing assault weapons, he said: “Confiscation could be an option. Mandatory sale to the state could be an option. Permitting could be an option — keep your gun but permit it.”
So, in truth, Cuomo mentioned confiscation only as one possibility among others, and he did so only in the context of assault weapons.

              Sorry, lie exposed.
