The question is, "Why was someone going out five days later saying it was a protest when that was not true?"

I listened to this this morning and again here. I don't hear an answer to that question.

I can surmise from her answer that they didn't know someone would be saying it was a protest and so they didn't feel the need to call up and ask that question. If so, then I think she could have just said that.

It's fair to say, "Why do we care all this time later?" But that doesn't tell me why someone was saying that there was a protest when there wasn't.

What she should have told him, frankly, is, "We were trying to confuse the terrorists and Republicans were just collateral damage." But, of course, you can't say that at a Senate hearing.

I think she could have put this to rest. I really don't think she did.

Republicans were just collateral damage." I was thinking along those lines myself. Diplomacy involves a lot of, um, misdirection.

She did say the FBI handled the investigation initially - per common sense standards, they make calls and ask questions first. Also that the survivors were in the Frankfurt hospital in bad conditions. Even the FBI doesn't go in if the patient can't handle it. (16 years in critical care, I know the probability many were initially too sedated to be able to give any answer, let alone remember what happened. Fire + smoke >>lung damage>>mechanical ventilation w sedation. Burns > sedation. Add more time to significantly pull out of sedation and shock for memory to start working.)

I don't have a lot of problem with the embassy demonstrators getting mixed up in the Benghazi attack at first. Especially given they may have found unreliable sources in Benghazi sent that information at first. Her comments re the current reports they should read, classified and un, and that the investigation is still missing definitive answers is apparently all she can divulge publicly. Until they have the case fairly nailed down, it could be a diplomatic and security issue to release the results they have.

I thought the TP Rice had been given came from Intel not State. Seemed like State had deferred to Intel at the time as to what should or shouldn't be said. Intel uses misdirection as much as State, if not more. They also use hide in plain sight a lot. Which she may have had to assist with today.

She did put the funding cuts/denials back in their laps. Which was apparently in the more sane part of the hearing - too dull to get exposure. Mostly she gave the media what the GOP still probably think they won, further evidence for American voters to compare GOP attacking a Dem under fire. Even with some doubts about the events still lingering, the GOP managed to rile up their base while presenting an unflattering view of their abilities, ignorance, etc. to the rest of us.
