Obama may not want a third term, but the citizens should have the option of retaining a good public servant or throwing out a dud after one term.
How many people voted for Dubya because it was his last chance?

Term limits only make sense, if we're setting up a rotating regency in which lots of people get the chance to be king for a term or two. But, such potentates are either ineffective or inclined towards dictatorship.  The latter is what Limp Bough fears. It's not rational, but the system does make it possible.

    •  I don't believe for a minute that Limbaugh (15+ / 0-)

fears an Obama third term, but I think he believes there are people out there who fear it enough, that there will be no end to the Obama administration, and they will do rash things.  I think there are many inciteful things being said on the rightwing these days, a broad casting of fears, innuendoes, conjectures, all things that can burrow into the minds of the already unhinged and affect their behavior.  Limbaugh has a right to say whatever he likes, but he must be prepared to deal with the conseqences.

Yesterday I contacted LegalZoom, one of Limbaugh's sponsors.  They wrote back but only to acknowledge receipt of my message.

      •  You're spot on (13+ / 0-)

I doubt Limbaugh believes 90% of what comes out of his mouth.  He's a caricature.  But that doesn't make what he says any less dangerous.  There are a lot of people in this country who are willing to act on misinformation--see Sikh murders in the wake of 9/11 in Phoenix.

Thanks for helping with sponsor contacts.  It's an uphill battle.  I got 9 messages from sponsors dropping Limbaugh today (out of about 50 contacts made).  Slow and steady wins the race.

Thanks for everything, Richard. We'll finish it for you.

      •  You are so right: (7+ / 0-)

I have been one on this site to occasionally mention that the fringe scares me to death and often hear that they are ultimately cowards and to ignore them.

I have lived in southen MS and heard their talk of him.  I am not talking about the "business" Rebugs who consider violence bad for business - I am talking about the truly unhinged.

And, I am not talking about a civil war either.  I am talking about the Timothy McVeigh types and the damage they can do with in sporadic actions.

Limbaugh is responsible for these loons and I think he knows exactly what he is doing and simply doesn't care as long as he is making money.

Blessed are the peacemakers, the poor, the meek and the sick. Message to Repug Fundies: "DO you really wonder "what would Jesus do?" I didn't think so.

if only to make Tea Party heads explode.  Plus, term limits denied the people the opportunity to get rid of W. on their own terms.

      •  Yes, but I was wrong on the number. (0+ / 0-)

It's the 22nd that needs to be amended. It would be enough to insert the word "consecutive."  Then we'd have the option of brining someone back after s/he'd had a rest.
