  •  I think a lot of other species understand (25+ / 0-)

that humans have the ability to manipulate (in the literal sense), that we have these graspers at the ends of our forelimbs that are capable of quite remarkable feats.

After all, a dog understands that you can throw a ball or stick, despite the fact that the dog isn't able to throw it back. Clearly, in their minds, we aren't other dogs, we are something different.

Of course dogs have much more experience of humans than dolphins have, but dolphins are probably more intelligent and aware than dogs are.

(Oops, now I have "incurred" the wrath of the woozle-persons.)

      •  Thanks. (10+ / 0-)

As primates, we are generalists. Jacks- (or Jills-) of-all-trades, not specialists. This is the key to our success as a species. When it comes to physical tasks we can do well enough to get by in all kinds of things, but never as well as a specialist in his/her specialty.

Dolphins are specialists in swimming, something humans just barely get by at. I suspect the dolphins understand this at some level, which accounts for the tales of dolphins saving human "swimmers".

So in this video the specialist asks for assistance from the generalists. Nice to see.
