  •  Thank you, mali. (6+ / 0-)

Warrick Dunn came from a single mother home and was the oldest of (I think) four.  He was just days past his 18th birthday when his mother, who was working as a security guard, was shot and killed while escorting a business man making a night deposit.  Dunn went on to play football for FSU (Florida State University) --where he set many records -- which is where he caught my eye and attention.  His aunt and uncle took in him and his family and Warrick never missed a single day calling and checking up on his siblings.

He was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the first round and I would read stories of how he was living cheaply as possible and aiding in his sibling's upbringing and saving for their education.  Once he was financially secure in that regard he began his charity work with Habitat for Humanity saying he understood from a first person perspective how hard it was for a single mother to raise children and how most times owning a home was the impossible dream.

Sorry to be so chatty, but I've always deeply admired this man.  He is the best kind of athlete - the good role model kind!

Have a wonderful weekend, mal ;-)
