to be contentious, I would never consider a 'fiscal hawk' to be a liberal, much less a socialist.

As a former federal civilian employee and military spouse, I cannot fathom that many folks in the progressive community accept that we make virtually no cuts to the bloated defense department budget.  That's been a real puzzle to me.

BTW, I like Dean a lot, too.  He's too conservative (or moderate) for me to support again, but I look back at my days in "two" DFA chapters, very fondly.

If a Grand Bargain is struck, we're going to need a Dennis Kucinich to restore the nation's finances, and any semblance of a decent standard of living for the majority of Americans.  :-)  Dennis may get his day, yet!

A lot of folks seem to forget that the first day of this month, 1.5-1.7 Trillion Dollars of Discretionary Spending cuts went into effect as a result of the Budget Control Act.

Probably in another 6 months to a year, the effect of some of these cuts will be quite noticeable.  And undoubtedly cause great difficulty, for many.

Just read yesterday that one of the first of the Medical Device firms sent out notices to hospitals, etc., that they will pass on the new "surcharge" that was levied on them, as part of Medicare reform.

Kaiser News, etc., reporting that these providers and entities are saying that they will pass this expense on to the consumer.
