if he runs, we lose GA-12.  I think he said he wants to stay in the House, but a Chambliss retirement might lead to people asking him again.

our strongest candidate. Is there really no one else that would be able to stand a chance in his district?

Baker was racking up a double-digit win in 2002, when Democrats were just annihilated in Georgia.

When he ran for governor against Barnes, even when he was much fresher in voters minds and benefited from a primary electorate that was IINM majority black. Ever since then I've questioned his ability to make the leap to Senate or Governor. I know primaries are much different than general elections, but I would have thought a good campaigner would have been able to put up more than 22% given the circumstances.

It would be well worth the tradeoff.

We don't know if Barrow will be capable of running a statewide campaign or if he suffers from Creigh Deeds syndrome and doesn't unite the party and doesn't understand the geographic power dynamic in Georgia (i.e. winning places like Gwinett County and running up the score in Dem counties).

The Democrats control the Senate (although just how much control is pretty questionable, given the reaffirmation of the filibuster rule), but they need to retake the House or at least pick up more seats. We've already seen that the increase of 8 seats has really mattered. Increasing more seats, even without a majority, would make a difference. Losing House seats would have bad effects.
