Markey hasnt had a competitive race in a while. Assuming the primary doesnt get too personal, it could be a good thing for him.

Coakley didnt lose because of the primary. And I dont know that a lack of primary really helped Warren.

I would say whole-heartedly that he needs to go.

Lynch is socially conservative.  At least relative to a northeastern Democrat.  But he's solid on labor issues and generally so on economic issues.  He'll offer a cultural contrast to Markey.  But I doubt he can win a one on one race.  And, as you say, it might be good for Markey in getting ready for the general.

a run pretty consistent campaign from the primary to general. No real moving to the left in the primary, and then to the right in the general. So that's not an issue here.

The only issue, as I say, is the primary gets messy and there are sore feelings heading into the general. Hopefully that isnt the case.

But Markey has never run statewide nor has he had a competitive race in a long time. It would be good for him travel the state and have to win over potential Lynch supporters.

the Affordable Care Act will ever have a chance of winning a statewide primary in Massachusetts. Lynch might now have known it at the time, but that vote damned his chances of ever moving up in the political world

He didn''t like no public option and thought it was a giveaway to the insurance companies.

in the heat of a Democratic primary taking place right as college seniors are getting knocked off of their university insurance and the entire state has the one of the worst flu epidemics in history fresh on their minds.
