  •  Doesn't surprise me in the least. (5+ / 0-)

It fits into the RW conspiracy theory nonsense that in the Last Days leading up to or into the Tribulation that Christians are going to be horribly persecuted, so they needz them some guns to fight off everyone else.

    •  Yes, but if they have so many guns (3+ / 0-)

however shall we persecute them?  /snark

Hypocrisy as always gets my attention, and knowing that the NRA immediately went with the 'look here! mental health' distraction away from assault weapons, er, "sporting rifles," that the xians complained about, well. It's like debunking David Barton, sometimes it's just too easy.

Christians are already persecuted in this country, witnessed by such events as Bible studies not being required in public school curriculums

I can't even imagine the cognitive dissonance of squaring this:

"it’s a short step from there to identifying us, Christians, genuine followers of Jesus Christ who believe the Bible and what it teaches … as mentally ill,” Fischer claimed. And if that happens, Fischer fantasizes, “Guns are going to be taken away from us.”
      With this:
"they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more."
      -Isiah 2:3 (KJV)
Don't even get me started on the ones who think they need to be armed for "The Tribulation":
"O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps."
      -Jeremiah `10:23 (KJV)

Those who support banning cocaine are no better than those who support banning cheeseburgers

Pick the right parts, and it'll say almost anything you want it to. Here for example; this was written by Larry Pratt, execute director of Gun Owners of America. GOA is for folks who think the NRA is too weak on gun rights.

And then there's the story I read about the company that manufactured rifle sights for the military, a company that secretly inscribed them with code for certain bible verses.

For these folks to show cognitive dissonance, I suppose they'd have to be confronted. I'm not sure how often that occurs.
