    I'm somewhat mollified by the points Chris raises.  The biggest hope I had was that the nuclear option would be used, because that would really put the senate on an inevitable road to real majority rule.  Alas, not to be so, yet.

    But we did re-prove that the nuclear option is real (at least on day 1, but that's a non-essential requirement) and is enough to bully the GOP into compromise to avoid its use.  It's not a paper tiger, or some cute theory on a blog.  

    A large part of this fight has been about convincing people who aren't senate rule nerds that this is so, and 67 votes are not needed to change the rules.  We know the rules can be changed by 51, and won't accept hand wringing about the need for two-thirds when faced by endless irrational opposition.
