  •  Gay and NJ (6+ / 0-)

It's great that he had the courage to come out the way he did.  I grew up in NJ and had a friend who came out to his closest friends at his graduation party.  That was 23 years ago.  Back then he was afraid of telling anyone despite the fact that all his friends already knew and he only told a small group of us.  His mom refused to acknowledge the fact that he is gay for many years.  Despite it's blue hue, NJ is a tough place to be gay.  Lots of macho BS in NJ.  I think NJ is changing but until it gets rid of it's uber macho governor, change won't come soon enough.  Jacob Rudolph will never be able to marry in NJ for example or have any rights when it comes to his partner.  Hopefully all those people who cheered him and applauded his courage will take the next step and get active in supporting him by pushing for real change in NJ.  Maybe they can't get Christie out this time but they can certainly get better politicians in Trenton who will force Christie to change as well.  Wish Jacob the best of luck
