and... all the local political press types, the ones with any access to Reid like Jon Ralston, all have been laying the groundwork that all the signs they see point to the sobering conclusion that he might not planning on running for re-election in 2016 at all.

    No primary opponent necessary.

It's pretty telling that Reid didn't hesitate to fold up his tent and do a handshake deal he swore he would never do last year.

I think getting Obama re-elected was his last hurrah. The reason he was willing to play those headgames with Mitt Romney before the election he couldn't really back up with anything besides more doubling down on more headgames and rumors about the Mittster.

Harry Reid is the Nevada State Democratic Party Machine. It's going to be a big deal if he steps away, because his kid Rory doesn't appear to have much of a future in national politics, and he's not as good as his father when it comes to retail politics around the State.

Who knows where we go from here.

Nevada has a lot of Florida in it, a state of Democrats that puts wingnuts and faux moderates in places of power.

There is no real Democratic bench in Nevada. Reid's son Rory blew it against Ensign. There is no fucking way that Dina Titus is going to give up a House seat after losing her last one in Henderson and having to move to get a new one, Shelley Berkeley is done after losing to Dean Shitbag Heller after bigfooting her way into the race.

The local GOP, so inept they make Massachusett Republican hacks look competent, won't be allowed to make the Sharron Angle mistake again.

We have the state's Democratic AG, Catherine Cortez Masto, and my money is on her running for Governor if Sandoval goes for that Senate seat. She's not really likely to go for that Senate seat if Sandoval is around to.

Clearing the way for Tea Party Senator Brian Sandoval, if he's not the VP candidate on the 2016 GOP ticket.

    Harry Reid sucks.

But the big talk, and he did talk a whole lot of shit about doing something big both here and nationally, and then Reid coming up small is just another log on the pile of him not being around after this term.

We need a new Senate leader.

As Dashchle and Reid have shown us, it is folly to allow a Democratic officerholder from a Purple or Red State be in charge, because the Weasel factor is always going to be a big problem.

      Democrats are fooling themselves.

The GOP is in full-on Cheat Mode from now until the day they can't win at all due to the national shifts in our population makes them non-viable. They know they cannot win a fair fight because of the demographic shifts in this nation now, thanks to Obama's win. The House staying GOP just re-enforces the notion that the full ratfuck needs to be on. They are going to destroy as much as they can of the New Deal before they are forced into the dustbin of history and have to re-invent themselves as something new in the service of rich white people and corporations.

Mitch McConnell will not hesitate to go nuclear on the filibuster if Marco Rubio or Jeb Bush is President post 2016 and the Senate is held by the GOP after 2014.

The GOP is in real trouble longer term, but the next 10 to 15 years could be the worst of the Movement Conservative Overreaches of the last 40 before it's over.

      •  We have a bigger problem than Harry Reid (6+ / 0-)

The Democratic Party wasn't able to handle the Reagan years, the W years, Rove-Atwater Republicanism.

If it couldn't find a way to get out of its own way from 1980 until 2012, no matter how many times Movement Conservatism epic failed and paid no price for those epic fails, then we can be sure as shit they it just isn't wired to deal with post-Rove Atwater Movement Conservatism.

I'm betting the electoral college ratfucking of keeping the Red States 100% allocated to the GOP, but allocating the Blue States the GOP runs thanks to 2010 by Congressional district wins and losses, rigging the game so that a Democrat cannot win the Presidency for a term or two until the Democrats start to fight back, will be met by whining and complaining and not a real fight.

Not unless it's entirely on us, and the Democratic establishment just gets the fuck out of our way and lets us our way to a better outcome.

get those positions. I'll be explicit: it's because the Democratic Party establishment (i.e. the leadership and others with clout) is not playing for the rank-and-file Democratic agenda. They're playing for the same team the Republican establishment is. They're on the same side. And it isn't our side.

And until Democrats are willing to lose seats in the short term by voting in primaries for candidates who aren't playing for our opponents what we see happening today will continue to happen. And, frankly, without a very strong left-wing third-party movement I doubt even primary victories (regardless of whether they lead to general election victories) will have much impact. The Democratic Party is currently a center-right party, which is unfortunate since they're the only game in town other than the Batshit Insane Teabilly party that currently has a chance of putting up electoral victories.

if Reid isn't going to run again, WHY throw us all under the bus -- and that includes PBO's agenda -- when he could have gone out in a blaze of progressive glory? WHY? Payoff? NRA? WHAT? WHY????

I ♥ President Obama and have his back.
Hands off SocSec, Medicare and Medicaid. NO subsidies to rich Corps.
Rich pay more, bloated DoD steal less. End war on Afghanistan 01/01/14.
