Kerry's 1971 Senate testimony tonight on "Last Word." I've often heard his "last man to die" line, but I don't think I had heard that much of his testimony before. I was in Nam at the time, so I sure didn't read about it in Stars & Stripes! The speech was so right on and, according to Lawrence's reconstruction of the events, Nixon saw it and called Haldeman the next day to say how effective it was. Shortly after that Nixon began the early withdrawals. I was the very first person on my firebase to be sent home, so as Lawrence said, thousands of Americans can thank Kerry for saving their butts, and I realized tonight I could be one of them.

statement on Lawrence show, rewinding it at least 3 times in the process.

Now thank you for your service. As a military brat I mean that in ways I can't explain!

I am so happy you made it home. Maybe more happy people back here were protesting and got you home (I was like 3 at the time).

When opportunity calls pick up the phone and give it directions to your house.
