correct me, that Georgia was becoming more blue. Is there a viable Dem who could run?

The new Democratic leadership, a new generation that includes a much more diverse and representative cross-section of the party and state and country, is good. But they expect to become a majority party again here beyond 2016. By 2020, maybe.

And there probably are not yet strong statewide candidates on the Democratic side, not yet. We'll see.

      •  That with current 2012 demographics. (1+ / 0-)

ACA is coming in and it's clear to seniors that the GOP wants to sell them out on Medicare to fund billionaire tax breaks.

Run Max Cleland and this could get interesting.

Former Governor Roy Barnes perhaps. Most recently he lost a statewide race for Governor to Nathan Deal in 2010.

      Mojo?!?! What mojo?

Aren't there any young Dem US reps? All the Repukes mentioned are old hacks.

        •  See above. "Chicago-style" politics got NOTHING (1+ / 0-)

      •  Not Barnes (0+ / 0-)

We run him, and we'll really look like we're clamoring for the good ol' days before Sonny and Saxby. And I'm sorry folks, but ditto for Cleland, and I have mad respect for the man. We have got to get fresher faces like John Barrow or Jason Carter to not look like we're calling up daddy to get us out of a tight spot.

Kasim Reed gets mentioned a lot as a candidate. He might have establishment bipartisan support, might get a pass from the business community, but that's not going to matter to the rank-and-file white Georgia voters (still every much a majority) who will only see a black man from Atlanta with a "D" next to his name. It's not his time yet; the demos are going to have to shift a lot more, and then maybe he can take Isakson's seat instead.
