    If Republicans running the national ticket can count on enough gerrymandered congressional districts in each state, they might not see the need to push for the last few. The national money could fall away from the large statewide media, hurting down-ticket candidates everywhere. It would abandon as lost, or skip over as won, many individual congressional district's small market media, concentrating on those near the margins. Individual congressmen and sate representatives from those areas would lose the coattails, if they polled too far above or below their national party.

    GOP Senators might put some pressure on, too, because they can't afford to abandon the better educated regions of their states. Unless someone does something rash like repealing the seventeenth amendment.
