    Reid's negotiated rule change of yesterday will make it easier to make appointments. It doesn't guarantee them, but it makes it easier.

    That is the best he could accomplish because no administration legislation can make it past the House of Representatives. We are limited to what can be done in the Senate: confirmation of appointments.

    As for the decision, the alternative was to leave vacancies. In light of the fact that all actions taken by those who were not constitutionally appointed, perhaps that would have been a better alternative.  That's a different debate, I think.

    But Reid's actions that progressives complained about yesterday are starting to look pretty smart (and prescient) today. All we can do is get appointments through and his actions make that more possible.

    If you hate government, don't run for office in that government.
