    More to the point, I would like it to be possible for a progressive idealist to be elected to the Oval Office.

    But it's not.  At least, it's not the case at the moment and will not be the case in 2016.

    As long as the traditional media continue to be the lapdogs of the GOP, as long as there are Kochs willing to dedicate vast sums for destructive propaganda, as long as people continue to "inform" themselves by watching Faux News ... as long as these and many other conditions continue to exist, we will not be able to steer the ship of state on a more humanistic course than we are currently on.

    Obama said in 2008 that he wasn't asking us to believe in his ability to bring about change in Washington: he was asking us to believe in ours.  And let's face it: too many Democrats didn't hear that message, and that's why we lost the House in 2010.

    If in 2014 we can get back the House and gain a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, then I might reconsider our chances.  But we have a lot of work to do in the meantime.
