currently in the Senate or Congress, except maybe Senator Sanders.

I would consider looking at the voting records of Sherrod Brown or Al Franken.  (Neither of them are my Senators, so I'd have to check them out.).

You know, Franken attended Harvard (and graduated) on scholarship.  He scored 800 out of 800 on Math on his SAT.  He's certainly got the brain power to be President.

Because Bernie is so outspoken, and considering his age as well, I doubt that he would consider running.

There are very, very few liberal or moderate Senators.  And we all know the odds are pretty slim for a Representative to win the Presidency.

And, right off hand, I don't know of any "progressive" Dem governors.

Truthfully, the ONLY issue at hand that presently merits my attention is the negotiation of the debt ceiling, sequestratian, etc., especially the possible enactment of deep austerity measures [cuts to Social Security and Medicare].

Anything else is a "bright, shiny object" and a distraction, IMO.  [Which is OK to some extent, or I wouldn't have put in my two cents, LOL!]

So, let me think on this, and I'll catch up with you later with "my pick" after the debt ceiling negotiations are completed.

I do know that the progressive activist community needs to try and get behind a candidate EARLY this time.  Especially if they are planning to back a non-Establishment Dem candidate (like Brown or Franken).

And, that the main quallification that needs careful vetting is their economic policy. [The wedge issues need to be put on the backburner in 2016, with all the major economic challenges facing all Americans.]  Hopefully, some or most of them will be resolved by then, anyway.
