  •  the boy scout article particularly interests me (5+ / 0-)

since the troop associated with our local elementary school has a strong non-discrimination policy. The troop leader told me that it is a written policy, but maybe the difference is that it's not on the website? He and the other troop leader did say that they "fly under the radar."
I may send the link to the troop leader -- he and I got into a bit of a battle because I said that by paying dues to BSA, his troop is supporting discrimination while he feels that the troop's non-discrimination rules are the type of thing that will eventually change the boy scouts from the inside.
But even though we disagree, I know that at least his heart is in the right place and he's trying, in his own way, to fight homophobia.

While Democrats work to get more people to vote, Republicans work to ensure those votes won't count.

    •  Be good to your friend/leader. (6+ / 0-)

Tell him I said be good to him.

I suspect his policy is flying under the radar. Many local troops do have a DADT policy and the national org only makes an example of some (maybe just the ones that come to their attention?).

longer works. I'll have to contact someone who knows him and try to get a new one.

interest to him since we're in Maryland also. I'm surprised that the troop with this on their website was in Cloverly -- when I read the first paragraph I assumed it was a troop in our area, maybe even the one I know about.
But Cloverly is further out and the further-out suburbs tend to be more conservative.
        Shows how things are changing!
