  •  No, people without mental illnesses kill people (7+ / 0-)

all the time. There are people with personality disorders, abusive partners, and so on who committ crimes with guns every day. I get your point, and it's a good one. However, we shouldn't accept the lie that only the mentally ill committ mass murders. It's bullshit. We still don't know if the Newtown killer was mentally ill. Yeah, his mother was trying to have him committed, but his mother wasn't a doctor. We have no way of knowing that he wasn't a psychopath making threats, and that institutionalization wasn't the best solution she had. Sure, he could have been schizophrenic, but, unlike the Aurora case, there are no red flags saying schizophrenic, not that we've seen anyway.

    •  I hear on NPR talk show that only 5% of homicides (5+ / 0-)

with guns are perpetrated by the mentally ill (so yes it is an excuse the gun Cult uses to take the heat off their sacred idols and their sacred 27-Word Gospel).  On the same show they said that about 50% of suicides with guns are by mentally ill people - on this one, my question is what freaking "responsible" gun owner keeps leaving their guns where mentally ill people can get a hold of them.

Then they came for me - and by that time there was nobody left to speak up.

      •  Mentally ill people can appear normal for a while, (0+ / 0-)

        at least.

After all, it would be much easier to find and treat them if they had blinking neon signs over their heads.
