    I'm amused to hear Ackman raving about how much people are going to like shopping in JC Penney's home section because of the self-contained environment. It's as if he thinks people are outfitting their prisons. That a purchase is an interaction and that, if the sales people can't be trusted, the process is a bust doesn't seem to register. For decades, retailers have been persuaded that it's the product that counts and that price (high, low or special) is what counts. Of course, the numbers count with the merchant, but the buyers are looking for an experience in the transaction. They like going to markets overseas where it is customary to haggle with merchants and be entertained by their shtick.
