  •  Walk through any mall. (8+ / 0-)

Or any other place where Americans congregate. Then start counting the number of people who are actually slim.

Look at pictures of ordinary men and women back in the forties and fifties. Most of them lean or slender, the men maybe not hugely muscular, but fairly fit.  Now? Here in Texas, I think it's worse than in some places but the number of people I see who couldn't walk a half-mile if their lives depended on it is astounding. I can't remember the last time I saw a man over thirty without a big belly.

We eat coporate crap instead of food, we get in a car to travel a block away, we park ourselves in front of a TV or a computer for five-twelve hours a day, we sneer at the idea of learning another language and get outraged at the idea of learning about another culture or--God forbid!--another faith, we curl our lips at "effete intellectuals", sneer at common sense and believe every political lie pitched our way, we talk about kicking sick people to the curb and letting kids go hungry and then we chant "USA! USA!" and expect the world to look at us with admiration and awe.

We're losing it people. We are really, really losing it.

Freedom has two enemies: Those who want to control everyone around them...and those who feel no need to control themselves.
