the fact that he came out and called for "resource officers" in schools really bugged me. The idea is stupid and the phrase hides what it is. It's like "contractors" instead of "mercenaries".

    •  Nah - we have a resource officer at all (6+ / 0-)

of our middle and high schools.  Sheriff's deputy, trained and an actual policeman, not some private security hack.  They have had them for years....to keep small problems from becoming big problems.  Not a terrible idea.

David Koch is Longshanks, and Occupy is the real Braveheart.

Unless there's some sort of unusual problem with violent students, just doesn't strike me as useful, in comparison to other things the money could be spent on in the school.

My sons' elementary school had a resource officer.  I thought at the time it was for public relations.  These guys were sweet and kind with the tykes -- and well liked by the students and parents.  The question is, how well they would do if surprised by a shooter.

Didn't Columbine (and other shooting sites) have armed guards?

Even Democrats can be asses. Look at Rahm Emanuel.

be saved by putting a "resource" officer in every school, vs spending the money on education.  The fact is that very few children, overall, die in school shootings, and while you can't put a price on human life, spending billions on education rather than resource officers may well have both a better and longer lasting effect on mortality rates than a resource officer at every school.

(I use quotes because I have no idea what "resource" means in this context)
