  •  PS I have repeatedly read here about (0+ / 0-)

how bad the computer estimates have been mainly due to inability to handle the nonlinear multiple positive feedback effects and other impredicativities.

Our models have to be mechanistic to be computable and therefore have to miss the mark.

An idea is not responsible for who happens to be carrying it at the moment. It stands or falls on its own merits.

    •  That has nothing to do with it being computable. (0+ / 0-)

It has to do with it being efficiently computable.

      •  yes we can always replace reality with bad (0+ / 0-)

computable models.  That has been my point all along.  Reality requires non computable models.

More Than Life Itself: A Synthetic Continuation in Relational Biology (Categories)
        A. H. Louie's More Than Life Itself is an exploratory journey in relational biology, a study of life in terms of the organization of entailment relations in living systems. This book represents a synergy of the mathematical theories of categories, lattices, and modelling, and the result is a synthetic biology that provides a characterization of life. Biology extends physics. Life is not a specialization of mechanism, but an expansive generalization of it. Organisms and machines share some common features, but organisms are not machines. Life is defined by a relational closure that places it beyond the reach of physicochemical and mechanistic dogma, outside the reductionistic universe, and into the realm of impredicativity. Function dictates structure. Complexity brings forth living beings.

      •  here's the idea if you can understand it (0+ / 0-)

The unsettling link between CO2 and sea level rise

I have done computer modeling of large complicated systems and have a book and scores of papers.  It is not news to those of us who actually do these things that our computer models are not reality nor is it news that reality is too complex for a computer model to be anything but a crude approximation.  The map is NOT the territory.

Now, besides useless carping that is wrong have you anything constructive to say about the diary?
