    I did a bit of research into it, since I had to spend a month in the hospital early last year. Someone noticed that shark skin seemed relatively impervious to bacterial problems. It seems the texture of shark skin is ... 'unfriendly' to colonization by bacteria. Since the resistance is not chemical, bacteria seem unable to adapt. So, next thing you know, human beings are duplicating the texture of shark skin, and are beginning to install it on surfaces (like commonly touched surfaces in hospitals) so that bacterial transmission is precluded by the textural impediment. Fascinating!

    The day could come when such transmission (from surfaces, at any rate) is a thing of the past. ::Monk applauds::
