Obama caters to the Dem centrists and takes the liberal wing for granted and always will.

    •  Lily Ledbetter and repealed DADT (0+ / 0-)

Call to say hello and WTF are you smoking.

      •  Lily Ledbetter was not in any way radical (0+ / 0-)

        legislation.

It was, in the class (small c) sense of the word, conservative.

What it did was fix something the SCOTUS had fucked up a few years prior, and return us to what had been the status quo ever since the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

The bill had already passed, Bush was just too much of an asshole to sign it.  It was passed again, and signed. No Democratic President would have failed to do so.

Sometimes, centrist legislation isn't bad legislation.  Sometimes, it's needed.

        But it's not enough.

        •  Your statement skews the facts. The bill was (0+ / 0-)

defeated in 2008 by the Republican Senate. Barack Obama actively supported and campaigned on the bill and promised to get it passed. He did.

Interesting that Ledbetter herself does not try to minimize the President on this issue. She said this:

“If we hadn’t elected president Barak Obama, the Supreme Court’s wrongheaded interpretation would have been the law of the land. And that would have been the end of the story,” Ledbetter said. “But with President Obama on our side, even though I lost before the Supreme Court, we won. The first bill that President Obama signed into law was the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. I think it says something about his priorities…”

Ledbetter disagress with you.... Interesting...your comment that the Ledbetter legislation was not radical legislation (so what?) was said to minimize the President's accomplishment through the minimizing of the bill itself. A bill that many women regard as extremely important is sad.

Have you passed any radical legislation lately?

          •  You do understand that she didn't actually (0+ / 0-)

            disagree with me, right?

She in no way said, or even implied, that signing the bill was in any way a radical or even particularly Left act.

Five Republicans in the Senate voted for it.

            Again,

Sometimes, centrist legislation isn't bad legislation.  Sometimes, it's needed.

            But it's not enough.

A rogue Court destroyed 44 years of status quo and tried to move the country extremely far to the right.  Pulling it back to the starting point was (c)onservative, and centrist.

It needed to be done.  It's good that it was done.  It was sad that it needed to be done.

That doesn't make it a massive achievement.
