  •  One of my main thoughts (7+ / 0-)

watching those videos is how glad I am that we have the medical means to help transition now.

It's so wonderful to see those happy faces but it made me think of all the people that haven't had the physically means to transition over the lifetime of humans.  We've made progress but there's so much more to do.

How cool that you have a picture with Clinton.

...I guess I qualified as an FOB.  My wife's boss was one of his county campaign managers.

But insurance companies still consider facial feminization and genital reassignment surgeries (and top surgeries) cosmetic and therefore not medically necessary, even after the IRS has allowed them to be deducted on income tax because they are deemed medically necessary by the medical community.  As expensive as they are, these surgeries are either not possible or extremely difficult to get accomplished by much of the trans community.  May of us live in poverty, many of us find our financial situations made much more difficult by transition.

It begs the question -- why would somebody put themselves through this if they didn't have to?

        with your comment.

I don't think we'll even begin to get close to everyone being able to have reassignment surgery until we get universal health care and reassigment surgery designated as mandatory in our health care for those wishing to have it.
